This is an example of a small but focused local backlink campaign for a construction company in Leeds. The project intentionally targeted dozens of location and service-specific pages — “construction company Leeds,” “loft conversion Leeds,” “house extension builders Leeds,” “commercial construction Leeds,” and similar combinations — rather than relying on a single homepage to carry all the ranking weight.
In this setup, even small improvements to relevance on individual pages can have a significant impact across the whole site. By refining how each service page is written — making sure the opening paragraph clearly states the service and the location together — those improvements compound across every page targeting a different Leeds-area construction search.
This opening paragraph matters more than people expect. The first few lines directly under the page heading are often what search engines weigh most heavily when deciding what a page is actually about. If that section is vague or generic, the rest of the page can struggle to be recognised as relevant at all — no matter how good the content further down is.
For this reason, we made sure every construction service page for Leeds clearly stated the service and area in the opening lines, rather than burying it further down the page.
The project also relied heavily on quick technical fixes — fixing slow-loading pages, broken internal links, and missing location tags — to help Google recognise these changes faster and crawl the updated pages sooner.
Backlink outreach, local citations, and a homepage refresh followed once the on-page foundation was solid — and that’s where most of the lasting ranking gains came from. A handful of genuine, relevant backlinks from Leeds-based business directories, trade associations, and local home improvement and construction blogs gave Google the trust signal needed to actually rank these service pages above larger national construction competitors who hadn’t bothered to build the same local relevance.
